Curacao: Premiering in the Caribbean

Debuting in the Caribbean with Curacao we had an unforgettable experience!

When you hear about Caribbean, most people nowadays imagine Cancun, in Mexico. This popular destination is truly beautiful, but there are many other paradises bathed by the sea. Caribbean less talked about and worth visiting. In this post I will talk about one of these places, which we visited: Curacao.

How did we choose Curacao?

The story of how we ended up in Curacao It's confusing. First, we had seen a airline ticket promotion to Punta Cana. However, it was too high, and we wouldn't have time to get our passport (we didn't have one). We didn't buy it for that reason, but there was that little pain in our heart.

Out of curiosity, we started researching several other destinations in this style, looking for one that didn't require a passport, like Cartagena, Colombia. And that's when we ended up finding Curacao, a destination for which you also need a passport, but it was enchanting at first sight.

Flight tickets

To the airline tickets They often cost between 440 and 500 dollars per person, round trip, leaving Rio de Janeiro. We found one of the best values ​​with a possible date, well in advance for passport collection. This is how this began to be designed trip.

We chose travel in April, on Rafa's birthday. In Curacao It's sunny all year round and there is a short period when it can rain, but April is an excellent time to catch a beautiful sun that turns the sea into that blue that everyone hopes to find.

Curacao is an island that belongs to the Netherlands Antilles. The official languages ​​are Dutch and Papiamento, which is a super interesting language, born from several other languages. English is also spoken, and hotels you get along with a portunhol.

The connections for Curacao depend greatly on the airline. THE Avianca stops in Bogotá and Cup in Panama.

In matter of hosting, it depends on the taste and budget of the traveler, but one tip is unanimous: rent a car! To the beaches They are super far from the central region, and taxis are very expensive!!!

From the airport to the hotel, the closed taxi cost 40 dollars, there was no meter. It was expensive because we went at a time when the dollar was high, for more than R$3.00. Another tip is to check if your hotel offers transfer from the airport to the hotel.

Hotel Sunscape Curaçao, All Inclusive

We stayed in one of the All inclusive resorts of the island, the Sunscape Curacao Resort, Spa & Casino. It's not a cheap hotel, but worth every penny!

Eat in Curacao It's expensive, unless you opt for fast food, if you stay in a more central region. THE All Inclusive It makes all the difference, and the food is very good. The breakfast is very plentiful and guests can serve themselves more than once. Lunch is in the same restaurant as the cafe, and is self-service style. It's not full of options, but the food is good.

There are snacks from 11 am at any time, hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and fries. At dinner, the lunch restaurant opens again and four more themed restaurants: a Japanese one (which has little Japanese, it's more like Asian, but it's good), a steak one, an Italian one and a seafood one.

We tried them all and they are excellent, the dishes are well served and delicious, which doesn't happen so much in systems All Inclusive. The Steak was our favorite. Furthermore, the hotel It's huge, has a large and super clean room, great pools and a beautiful private beach, even though it's artificial.

Activities for guests

THE Hotel Suscape It also offers a multitude of activities for all audiences, from children to adults. These activities include a papiamento class, volleyball in the pool, dancing (by the way, the first song we heard during the dance activity was “Ai se eu te pega”!), as well as snooker, kayaking and stand up paddle equipment, which guests can use free of charge.

The island's cuisine is quite cosmopolitan, it has influences from different places, and because it is an island, obviously, you can find a lot of seafood.

The beaches of Curacao

Speaking of Curacao beaches It's difficult to choose a more beautiful one, but we did. She's called Kenepa Grandi (or Gandi)! It was the first beach that we visited, other than the hotel, and its beauty impressed you right away, from the viewpoint.

She is a beach public, that is, you don't pay to enter. Has a face desert paradise, at least when we went it was quite empty, and its structure is not as good as some paid beaches, but this gives it an air of wild beach which contributes to the beauty of the place. The color of the water looks like a painting, and it is delicious! Nice temperature, no waves.

Cas Abao and Port Marie are also beautiful beaches. They are paid, but they have a nice structure to rest, with a restaurant and chairs. Port Marie There’s a cool pier to take photos too. We also visited the Kenepa Chiki and the Lagoon, which are also beautiful, but are less prominent compared to the first three mentioned. There are also Klein Curacao, one beautiful beach where you can only get there by boat, and in that sea you can easily find sea turtles.

The Veneto hotel and the Center of Curaçao

On our last two days in Curacao, we left the sunscape hotel and we went to stay in the central region, to get to know a little about this part of the city in Curacao. We choose the hotel Veneto, which also has a private beach, and despite being much simpler than the sunscape beach, is also beautiful.

THE hotel Veneto There is no all-inclusive system, but it is next to the center, you can walk, so we could easily settle for a Subway or a Mc Donald’s, so we got a cheaper food, hahahaha. Furthermore, the Curacao Subway has the Seafood sensation sandwich, seafood, made with crab and seasonal fruits.

This region is good for buying souvenirs or making larger purchases, for those looking. It is where you can find designer stores and electronic products at very good prices compared to Brazil.

We only bought souvenirs, and there are lots of beautiful things to bring! Of course a bottle of Blue Curacao liqueur cannot be missed. I also found a wonderful handmade bag in a super small store that I still use today.

Anyway, Curacao It is a beautiful place, with unbelievable landscapes and wonderful air. It's worth visiting. I think at least 5 days to enjoy everything: one day to get to know the beaches, by car, one to take the tour Klein Curacao, a couple of days to tour Punda and the entire central region and one to spend the whole day enjoying the hotel.
